Tattoos

If you are now haunted by “tattoo regrets”, you may want your tattoo removed or modified. Our specialist laser nurses offer a personalised approach to every tattoo removal procedure.  The approach to the procedure needs to account for various factors, including the tattoo’s colour, location and size, as well as the ink density, depth and type.  For the best outcome, a customised treatment plan is specifically tailored for you.

The biggest benefits of visiting the Skin Specialist Centre for your Tattoo Removal are the expertise of our Registered Specialist Laser Nurses and our state-of-the-art picosecond laser tattoo removal equipment.

Be aware that Laser and IPL centres are offering tattoo removal with devices now outdated in the current environment, increasing your risk of side-effects (blistering, crusting, pigmentation alteration and scarring). The Skin Specialist Centre can minimise the complications, providing the most comprehensive picosecond and nanosecond laser technology currently available in Australasia. If you’ve been considering tattoo removal we’ll give you an idea of what to expect from the process (in terms of pricing, time, expectations, and more). While we’re happy to talk treatment over the phone, we won’t be able to offer a precise estimate until we can evaluate your tattoo ourselves.

Your first consultation won’t require anything on your part – simply that you visit our clinic. In a New Zealand first, the Skin Specialist Centre offers the most powerful PicoSecond laser tattoo removal service. The award winning PicoWay laser tattoo removal device by Syneron-Candela is the first and only in New Zealand. If you are looking to have a tattoo removed in the least amount of time and with the least amount of pain, put your trust in the Skin Specialist Centre and the PicoWay. With the PicoWay, we can treat all skin types (light to dark) and remove your tattoo in under half the time of a traditional Q-Switch ND:Yag tattoo removal machine.

What tattoo types do you treat?

Professional Tattoos: These common tattoos have high ink density, are deeper in the skin and usually there are multiple colours. They are commonly applied with tattoo guns. Laser tattoo removal of professional tattoos requires the greatest number of sessions.

Amateur Tattoos: Amateur tattoos contain much less ink and are more superficial that professional tattoos. Removal of amateur tattoos will commonly take between 2-6 treatments.

Cosmetic & Makeup Tattoos: These tattoos are performed to create the illusion of permanent makeup. They have less ink than professional tattoos, and will be removed in 1-6 treatments, depending on the type of ink and ink density. We recommend that if possible you contact the professional who applied the makeup tattoo, and ask about the ink ingredients so that we can proceed safely and effectively.

Traumatic Tattoos: After physical trauma, particles or debris can become embedded in the damaged skin. In this case, we can’t estimate how many removal sessions will be necessary. Schedule a consultation to learn more about what to expect.

Medical Tattoos: In some cases, healthcare professionals will place tattoos to mark certain areas of the body, aiding in radiation treatment. These tattoos are light on ink, and take only 1-2 treatments to remove.

Removing tattoos with PicoWay

The Skin Specialist Centre decided to invest in the PicoWay technology due to the PicoWay’s new third wavelength and much higher power output for superior results. The PicoWay by Syneron-Candela is a true PicoSecond tattoo removal device. Featuring three wavelengths to target all colours, it is safe to use on all skin types (including dark skin). The PicoWay allows the Skin Specialist Centre to remove your tattoo in the shortest possible time with shorter recovery time and less time between tattoo removal sessions.

We also offer traditional Q-Switched laser – If your tattoo is particularly dark in colour or large, we may recommend a traditional Q-switched laser. Typically utilized for dense, large ink molecules that may be too large for picosecond pulses, this technology takes down dark inks with ease. A Picosecond pulse is one trillionth of a second vs a Nanosecond pulse which is one billionth of a second. The PicoWay uses the much faster Picosecond pulse to shatter tattoo ink into tiny particles that can easily be removed by your body’s natural immune response.

Where the PicoWay stands head and shoulders above all other tattoo removal devices is in the laser energy used. The PicoWay is majority photoacoustic effect which is sound energy. Because of the lack of photothermal or heat from the PicoWay, there is little to no damage to the top layer of your skin (epidermis), giving you a quicker recovery time and shorter time between tattoo removal sessions. Nanosecond lasers have proportionally more photothermal effect which heats the pigment and surrounding tissue which can cause complications on darker skin types.
